On June 20, 2025, at BMO Field in Toronto, the Saskatchewan Roughriders pulled off one of the most thrilling wins of the CFL season, defeating the Toronto Argonauts 39–32 in dramatic fashion. The game was a back-and-forth battle packed with explosive plays, but it was Mario Alford’s 99-yard kickoff return touchdown with just 9 seconds left that sealed the win for Saskatchewan in unforgettable fashion.
The game opened with a touchdown pass from Argos QB Nick Arbuckle to Dejon Brissett, but Saskatchewan responded with a 25-yard rushing TD by former Argo A.J. Ouellette, followed by a 32-yard bomb from Trevor Harris to Dohnte Meyers. The Riders built a solid lead thanks to big plays on both sides of the ball, including four sacks by the Saskatchewan defense.
However, Toronto never backed down. Arbuckle, who had a strong night completing 26 of 33 passes for 259 yards and 2 TDs, led a late fourth-quarter charge. He connected with Kevin Mital for an 8-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie the game at 32–32 with under 30 seconds remaining. It looked like the game might head to overtime—until Alford took the ensuing kickoff all the way to the house, stunning the home crowd and putting the Riders ahead for good.
Trevor Harris was sharp for Saskatchewan, going 13 of 17 for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Dohnte Meyers finished with 125 receiving yards and 2 scores. Ouellette added 91 rushing yards and a touchdown. On the other side, Mital was Toronto’s standout receiver with 7 catches for 98 yards.
The game was marred by a lack of discipline, with a whopping 29 total penalties amounting to 307 yards—Saskatchewan accounting for 178 of those yards on 18 infractions. Still, the Roughriders found a way to win, improving to 3–0, while the Argonauts remain winless at 0–3.
Toronto head coach Ryan Dinwiddie expressed frustration after the game, particularly with having only 11 players on the field during Alford’s game-winning return. In contrast, Saskatchewan’s Corey Mace praised his special teams: “Special teams did the rest… to have a walk-off like that was incredible.”
Next up, Saskatchewan returns home to face the BC Lions on June 28, while the Argonauts will look to regroup on the road against the Ottawa Redblacks on June 29.
