New York Jets vs Green Bay Packers

The preseason opener at Lambeau Field began with immediate fireworks from the Jets’ new quarterback, Justin Fields. On his first drive in green and white, Fields led a 10-play, 79-yard march that mixed sharp passing with timely scrambles. He capped it off by breaking through a collapsing pocket for a 13-yard touchdown run, setting the tone for what would become a commanding night for New York. His presence and poise drew cheers from the Jets’ sideline, marking a promising first impression under head coach Aaron Glenn.

Defensively, the Jets wasted no time asserting themselves. Early in the second quarter, rookie defensive lineman Leonard Taylor III strip-sacked Packers backup Malik Willis, and Jay Tufele pounced on the loose ball in the end zone for a defensive touchdown. The moment sparked a wave of energy, with Tufele and Glenn celebrating together as the Jets took firm control. That defensive play was quickly followed by another special teams gem—a muffed Packers punt by Mecole Hardman—which set up a short Harrison Mevis field goal, pushing the lead to 17-3 by halftime.

The offensive momentum carried over into the second half. Midway through the third quarter, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor found Stone Smartt on a perfectly executed 24-yard screen pass for a touchdown. The call caught Green Bay’s defense over-pursuing, and Smartt weaved through traffic untouched. The score extended New York’s lead to 24-3, all but putting the game out of reach with an entire quarter still to play.

Green Bay’s only flash of offensive brilliance came late in the fourth quarter. Undrafted rookie running back Amar Johnson broke free on a 39-yard touchdown run, slicing through the Jets’ reserve defense for the Packers’ lone end zone visit. Outside of that burst, however, Green Bay struggled to establish any rhythm, with their quarterbacks under constant pressure and their running game largely bottled up by a disciplined Jets front.

When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 30-10 in favor of the Jets. It was a complete performance that showcased balanced offensive execution, opportunistic defense, and sharp special teams play. Fields’ debut was everything New York hoped for—efficient, dynamic, and decisive—while the defense’s early turnover and touchdown set a tone of aggression. For Aaron Glenn’s squad, it was a statement start to the preseason, while the Packers left with more questions than answers about their depth and consistency.
