Kansas City Chiefs vs Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks made a statement in their preseason clash with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, August 15, 2025, dominating from the first snap in front of their home fans at Lumen Field. Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, looking composed in his first extended NFL action with Seattle, engineered a flawless opening drive that spanned 81 yards over 10 plays and ended with Zach Charbonnet sprinting into the end zone on a 15-yard run. That early sequence set the tone for what would become a long night for Kansas City’s defense.

Seattle’s offensive line dictated much of the contest, creating gaps that allowed the Seahawks to pile up 268 rushing yards as part of a 477-yard offensive explosion. Charbonnet and fellow backs Damien Martinez and George Holani each found opportunities to slash through the Chiefs’ front seven, keeping the Kansas City defense on its heels. For a preseason game, the balance and rhythm of Seattle’s rushing attack stood out as one of the most polished units on the field.

Quarterback Drew Lock ensured the Seahawks’ passing game wasn’t overshadowed. Coming in after Darnold, he completed 10 of 12 passes for 129 yards and connected twice with Jake Bobo for touchdowns. Bobo showed his reliability in the red zone, finishing with three catches for 44 yards and two scores, cementing himself as one of Seattle’s emerging playmakers. The chemistry between Lock and Bobo highlighted Seattle’s growing depth at receiver, giving the team even more weapons heading into the season.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, struggled to establish any rhythm offensively without stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in the lineup. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew managed 70 passing yards and tossed a short one-yard touchdown to Robert Tonyan, but Kansas City couldn’t generate consistency against Seattle’s aggressive front. Defensively, they were overwhelmed, giving up chunk plays on the ground and unable to stop the Seahawks’ red-zone execution.

By the time the final whistle blew, Seattle had secured a commanding 33-16 victory. For the Seahawks, it was a preseason win that felt like more than just practice, showcasing a bruising ground game, promising quarterback play, and key contributions from younger talents like Bobo and Martinez. For Kansas City, the night served as a reminder of how important depth and defensive cohesion will be as the season approaches. While the result won’t count in the standings, the performances on both sides offered clear insight into where each team stands heading into 2025.
