The Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a dramatic 26–21 road victory over the previously unbeaten San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium, showcasing a balanced attack and opportunistic defense. The 49ers started strong with an early Eddy Pineiro 26-yard field goal, but Jacksonville’s defense quickly turned the tide. After forcing a fumble, the Jaguars struck on the very next play with Travis Etienne breaking free for a 48-yard touchdown run. Trevor Lawrence followed with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Long on the next drive, giving Jacksonville a 14–3 lead and silencing the home crowd.
San Francisco stayed within reach by adding a 23-yard field goal before halftime, but Brock Purdy’s struggles under pressure kept the offense from fully clicking. Jacksonville intercepted him twice in the first half and converted one into points, further extending their lead. The highlight of the game came on special teams when Parker Washington electrified the Jaguars’ sideline with an 87-yard punt return touchdown — the team’s first in nearly eight years — putting them ahead 26–14 and giving them crucial breathing room entering the fourth quarter.
The 49ers, true to their reputation, mounted a late surge. Purdy led a crisp 75-yard drive capped by a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jake Tonges, cutting the deficit to 26–21. Christian McCaffrey played a major role down the stretch, finishing with 141 scrimmage yards and a receiving touchdown, keeping San Francisco in striking distance. Jacksonville missed a late 47-yard field goal, setting up a tense finish and giving the 49ers a chance to steal the game in the final minutes.
With less than two minutes left, San Francisco pushed deep into Jacksonville Jaguars territory, looking for a game-winning score. But the Jacksonville defense stood tall when it mattered most. Former 49er Arik Armstead delivered the game’s defining moment by stripping Purdy in the backfield, and linebacker Foyesade Oluokun recovered the fumble to clinch the victory. The Jaguars’ sideline erupted as they celebrated a defensive stand that sealed one of the most hard-fought wins of their season so far.
Statistically, Purdy threw for 309 yards with two touchdowns but was undone by two interceptions and the critical fumble. Lawrence was efficient, throwing for 174 yards and a touchdown, while Etienne carried 19 times for 124 yards. Jacksonville’s defense forced four turnovers in total, a season-high, and turned them into points at key moments. The win lifted the Jaguars to 3–1 and announced them as a legitimate AFC contender, while the 49ers fell to 3–1 and were left to regroup after their first setback of the season.
