The Baltimore Ravens opened their 2025 preseason with a solid 24–16 home victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Friday, August 8. The game, played at M\&T Bank Stadium, featured several standout performances from Baltimore’s special teams and backfield. Most notably, LaJohntay Wester electrified the stadium in the third quarter with an 87-yard punt return touchdown, swinging momentum firmly in the Ravens’ favor. Running back Keaton Mitchell also impressed, rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown, showcasing the kind of explosiveness that could earn him more snaps during the regular season.
The Colts’ night started with early concern as Anthony Richardson, returning from shoulder surgery, left the game in the first quarter after dislocating his throwing-hand pinky finger when he was sacked by Baltimore Ravens linebacker David Ojabo. Richardson was immediately evaluated on the sideline and did not return. In his absence, newly acquired veteran Daniel Jones took over and completed 10 of 21 passes for 144 yards. Though he moved the ball at times, the Colts’ offense struggled to finish drives, settling for field goals rather than capitalizing on red zone opportunities.
In the second half, Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Riley Leonard was given extended reps. He completed 12 of 24 passes for 92 yards, and led a touchdown drive capped off by a Khalil Herbert rushing score. However, Leonard also threw an interception that stalled a key drive, underlining the ups and downs of a first NFL outing. The Colts’ defense held up reasonably well, forcing multiple third-down stops, but couldn’t contain Baltimore’s big special teams plays or late-game rushing attack.
The Ravens also suffered a major blow as rookie cornerback Bilhal Kone went down with a serious knee injury in the fourth quarter. Head coach John Harbaugh later confirmed that Kone tore multiple ligaments and would miss the entire 2025 season. Despite the injury, Baltimore’s depth looked sharp overall, especially on defense where they notched multiple sacks and forced a fumble. While the result won’t count in the standings, both teams learned plenty about their rosters as they shift focus toward preseason Week 2.
