The Calgary Stampeders marched into BMO Field and walked out with a gritty 29–19 win over the Toronto Argonauts, powered by a defense that came up big in key moments and a ground game that wore Toronto down late.
The turning point came early in the fourth quarter when Cam Judge jumped a route and returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown, swinging momentum firmly in Calgary’s favor. That play turned a tight contest into a two-score lead the Argos couldn’t recover from. Calgary’s defense also added a special teams touchdown on a fumbled kickoff return, highlighting a complete team performance.
Offensively, Jake Maier was efficient, throwing for 175 yards and a touchdown while avoiding mistakes. Ka’Deem Carey handled the tough yards, rushing for 92 and punching in a short TD in the final minutes to seal the victory.
Toronto showed flashes, especially with a 76-yard touchdown pass from Chad Kelly to Cam Phillips, but inconsistency plagued their offense. The Argonauts committed three turnovers and struggled to finish drives, with quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and backup Cameron Dukes both failing to find sustained rhythm.
With the win, Calgary improved to 2–0, showing promise on both sides of the ball. Toronto, now 0–2, will need to regroup quickly, especially on offense, as they look ahead to their next matchup.
