On July 13, 2025, at Commonwealth Stadium, the BC Lions delivered a commanding 32–14 victory over the Edmonton Elks, securing their second straight win over Edmonton this season. Nathan Rourke led the charge with 345 passing yards and two touchdowns, showcasing sharp decision-making and control throughout the game. Running back James Butler dominated on the ground, rushing for a career-high 172 yards and adding a touchdown, consistently breaking through the Elks’ defensive front.
The game remained tight early, with a scoreless first quarter broken by Sean Whyte’s 33-yard field goal. Rourke then connected with Jevon Cottoy on a 16-yard touchdown to spark BC’s momentum. Edmonton responded briefly with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Cody Fajardo, following a tipped interception, but Butler quickly restored the Lions’ lead with a 15-yard scoring run. Just before halftime, Rourke found Stanley Berryhill III for another touchdown, sending BC into the break up 24–7.
The Lions’ defence dominated, holding Edmonton to just 160 net yards and limiting quarterback Tre Ford to only 34 passing yards. Special teams added a safety and two more field goals from Whyte, extending the lead and maintaining pressure.
The result pushed BC to a 3–3 record, with Rourke noting the team still has room to grow, while Edmonton dropped to 1–4, struggling to find rhythm offensively. With a balanced attack, solid defence, and standout performances on both sides of the ball, the BC Lions demonstrated why they remain a dangerous contender in the 2025 CFL season.
