The Rams came out firing in the first quarter, exploiting weaknesses in the Cowboys’ defense. Quarterback Stetson Bennett showed sharp accuracy, completing a crucial 39-yard deep pass to Xavier Smith on a key fourth-down play. Running back Blake Corum was unstoppable early, powering in two touchdowns from short range to give Los Angeles a quick 14–0 lead. Meanwhile, Dallas’ offense struggled to get going, managing only one yard in total offense during the opening quarter.
Dallas started to find its footing in the second quarter despite some setbacks. Rookie running back Phil Mafah brought life to the offense with several explosive runs, helping the team sustain drives. Though penalties stalled some momentum, the Cowboys managed to put points on the board through two field goals by Brandon Aubrey, cutting the Rams’ lead to 14–6 by halftime. The quarter also featured a lighthearted moment when an official accidentally bumped wide receiver CeeDee Lamb on the sideline, prompting smiles all around.
The third quarter saw both teams exchanging turnovers, with Joe Milton III throwing an interception that was quickly answered by a pick from Cowboys safety Israel Mukuamu. The Rams added to their lead with a 37-yard field goal by Joshua Karty. Dallas’ offense continued to face challenges converting on crucial third and fourth downs, while the Rams’ defense, led by linebacker Pooh Paul Jr., maintained constant pressure and disrupted the Cowboys’ rhythm.
In the fourth quarter, the Rams extended their advantage as Bennett connected with running back Cody Schrader on a 9-yard touchdown pass, pushing the score to 24–6. The Cowboys responded with a touchdown of their own, Joe Milton III finding tight end Rivaldo Fairweather for a 7-yard score, followed by a successful two-point conversion that narrowed the deficit. However, the Rams sealed the win with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Bennett to Brennan Presley, bringing the final tally to 31–21.
Overall, the Rams showcased a balanced and efficient offensive attack paired with opportunistic defense, setting the tone for their preseason. Bennett’s confident quarterback play and Corum’s dynamic running established early momentum that Dallas couldn’t quite overcome. The Cowboys showed resilience and flashes of promise but will need to tighten up execution as they prepare for the regular season challenges ahead.
