Houston Texans vs Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings claimed a 20–10 victory over the Houston Texans at U.S. Bank Stadium, showing early signs of cohesion and depth. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy made a strong return from injury, completing 4 of 7 passes for 30 yards during his brief but efficient series. Sam Howell also contributed significantly, throwing for 105 yards and scoring a rushing touchdown that helped the Vikings maintain control throughout the game.

Houston opened the scoring with a touchdown pass from Davis Mills to Braxton Berrios, giving the Texans an early lead. However, their offense struggled to build momentum after that. Rookie quarterback Graham Mertz, returning from an ACL injury, had a difficult night, throwing three interceptions that stalled multiple drives. Despite this, Mills and wide receiver Jaylin Noel showed flashes of promise, especially with Noel making several key catches in short-yardage situations.

The Texans’ offensive line showed improvement, particularly on the opening drive where they provided solid protection for Mills and opened running lanes for backup running back Dare Ogunbowale. Rookie left tackle Aireontae Ersery stepped up in place of the injured Cam Robinson, delivering several strong blocks. Unfortunately, penalties and inconsistent play later in the game disrupted their rhythm and limited Houston’s offensive efficiency.

Defensively, Houston’s backups held firm early on but fatigue and injuries began to take a toll in the second half. Injuries in the secondary forced the team to rely on less experienced players, which Minnesota’s offense exploited, especially with their third-string personnel. Still, the Texans’ defense made timely stops that prevented the Vikings from pulling away by a wider margin.

The game was overshadowed by a significant injury to Vikings wide receiver and punt returner Rondale Moore. Moore was carted off in the second quarter after suffering a lower left leg injury during a punt return. Head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed serious concern about the injury, which may involve the knee, leaving the Vikings and fans anxiously awaiting further updates.
