In a rain-soaked and lightning-delayed showdown on May 30, 2025, the St. Louis Battlehawks edged out the D.C. Defenders 13–8 at Audi Field, securing home-field advantage for the upcoming XFL Conference Championship.
Despite both teams resting key starters in anticipation of their playoff rematch, the Battlehawks showcased their depth and resilience. Quarterback Brandon Silvers, stepping in for the injured Manny Wilkins, completed 6 of 8 passes for 105 yards, including a 38-yard strike to Hakeem Butler on his first play. Running back Jarveon Howard capitalized on the momentum, punching in a 1-yard touchdown to give St. Louis an early lead.
The game faced a 47-minute lightning delay shortly after kickoff, adding to the challenging conditions. Upon resumption, D.C.’s Andre Mintze recorded a safety, narrowing the gap. However, Battlehawks kicker Rodrigo Blankenship extended the lead with field goals of 30 and 36 yards, bringing the halftime score to 13–2.
